Crimson Wave Baseball wins first CCAC game of the season in doubleheader sweep at Trinity Christian
After scoring 10 runs in its final game on a lengthy Florida trip, the CCSJ baseball team bats stayed hot as they scored 21 runs in their doubleheader sweep over CCAC opponent Trinity Christian Tuesday afternoon.

Palos Heights, IL – After scoring 10 runs in its final game on a lengthy Florida trip, the Calumet College of St. Joseph baseball team stayed hot as they tallied 21 runs in their doubleheader sweep over Trinity Christian on Tuesday, March 5. The sweep, a 9-1 win in Game 1 and a 12-6 win in Game 2, gave the Crimson Wave its first two CCAC wins of the season.
Game 1: CCSJ 9, Trinity Christian 1
In Game 1, the Crimson Wave recorded 12 hits, managing to score two runs in the second, fifth and seventh inning, as well as scoring three runs in the third inning. Trinity Christian was able to get six hits throughout the game, but that only amounted to one scored run in the fourth inning.
Tommy Benson had a stellar game, going 4-for-4 at the plate, with four runs scored, four RBIs and two home runs. Michael Machnic went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs while Josef Selby went 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
Andrew Davenport went the distance on the mound for CCSJ, pitching all seven innings, while striking out six and allowing six hits. Davenport threw two strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.
Game 2: CCSJ 12, Trinity Christian 6
In Game 2, the Crimson Wave recorded a season-high 17 hits. CCSJ scored two runs in the first and fourth inning, to take a 5-1 lead after the fourth inning. Trinity Christian answered back in the bottom of the eighth with five runs scored off three hits. The Wave bats continued to stay hot as they scored seven runs in the final two innings to complete the sweep.
Michael Machnic went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Brennan Nichols had three hits while Michael Perry and Darrius Little had two hits and three RBIs apiece. Tyler Brody and Tommy Benson also chipped in with two hits each.
Kail Baughman picked up the win for CCSJ at the mound, throwing three strikeouts and giving up nine hits in seven innings pitched.

CCSJ returns to action Friday, March 15 for a doubleheader against Olivet Nazarene. Not only will it be the second opponent within the CCAC the team has faced this season, but it also be the first home for the Crimson Wave. First pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 3:00 PM CT.
