Lady Wave Fall to Judson on Senior Night
EAST CHICAGO, Ind.- On a night where the Calumet College of St. Joseph women's soccer team celebrated the career of its ten graduating seniors, all hopes were set on securing their first win of the season. Unfortunately, it appears as if Judson University didn't get that memo. An Eagles goal within the first five minutes of play sealed the Crimson Wave's fate, as CCSJ fell 2-0 Tuesday night at East Chicago Central Field.
The Crimson and Gray's defense was tested right out of the gate, but Yulissa Solis spilt all defenders and buried her first goal of the night past Jasmine Castillo (SO/Chicago, Ill.) at the 3:30 mark of the first half. From there on out things settled down, seeing both teams play in their respective ends. Each team would wind up with prime scoring chances with under 15 minutes to go in the first, but neither would be able to score, sending us into the break 1-0 Eagles.
Knowing they had to get on the board or suffer another defeat, the Wave offense kicked it into high gear, bringing out a high pressure offense in the second half. With risks comes the chance to get burned, and unfortunately that came to pass. CCSJ gave up back to back breakaway attempts to Solis, who capitalized on the second opportunity, replicating her goal from earlier in the game at 62:34 to make it 2-0. The Crimson Wave couldn't get anything more going with the time remaining, and would be blanked for the fourth straight game.
Castillo ended with five saves on seven attempts. On the offensive side, Alex Clemente (SR/Rensselaer, Ind.) and Fatima Garcia (SR/Cicero, Ill.) each had two shots in the match, one of each ending up on goal. Hannah Alderson (JR/Manchester, England), Raquel Salinas (SR/Berkley, Ill.), and Brooke Jackson (SR/Portage, Ind.) would contribute one shot apiece to the Wave's shot total of eight.
Next up for the Wave will be Cardinal Stritch in the home finale at East Chicago Central Field on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff for the CCAC matchup is scheduled for Noon.
