Mixed Results Greet Bowling At First Tournament
LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The first game or tournament of the season for any sports is not going to be perfect. There will be bumps in the road, things to figure out, and chemistry still yet to be created amongst teammates. The 2018 Boilermaker Classic was no different for the Calumet College of St. Joseph men's and women's bowling teams. While the women's squad were able to recover from a less than stellar day one showing, the men will have some things to iron out after the two-day tournament this past weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED
As always, day one kicked off with the individual side of the tournament. The Lady Wave had the best showing out of the two teams, as Danielle Rudnickas took home third place, and all tournament honors. Lindsey Norton just missed out on the top five, coming in sixth with a 188.60 pin average. On the men's side, the best finisher was Shawn Quinn Jr. who finished with a 17th place finish (195.40 pa). Tyler James (SR/Deltona, Fla.) also broke the top-20 with his 193.80 pin average.
Next came the Bakers games, which determine who the overall tournament winner is. The Crimson and Gray men took a standing of 9th place into the final rounds of Sunday, but were unable to improve on that. The team would end up finishing in the same spot with a total pin total of 7,475. Robert Morris University would be the men's winner with 8,205 pins. The Lady Wave were able to turn around things for themselves however, they moved up from 6th to 4th on Sunday, finishing less than 100 pins off a third place finish. Overall winner Saint Ambrose came in with 7,310 pins.
COACHES CORNER:
Mike Kubacki: "As coaches, we were aware that our preseason scores weren't good. But we thought that the tournament setting might bring out the boys best. Unfortunately, it didn't, so it's time to get back to the grind of fundamentals and basics to improve our scores.
WHO'S ON DECK?
Both teams will be back in action this weekend when they head to Wauwatosa, Wis. for the Midwest Collegiate Tournament. The first Tier One event of the season will play itself out over the course of Saturday and Sunday.
