Bowling Rides Vegas Results Into Storm Baker Challenge
ADDISON, Ill. – The Calumet College of St. Joseph men's and women's bowling teams hit the lanes for the first time in 2019 over the weekend, three weeks after turning in solid results during their two Las Vegas tournaments in the middle of December. And while the women struggled, the men kept riding their wave of momentum to a second place finish at the Storm Baker Challenge this past Saturday and Sunday.
RESULTS
Men: 2nd out of 21 teams
Women: 11th out of 21 teams
TOTAL PINFALLS
Men: 8057
Women: 6802
HOW IT HAPPENED
The men came into this past weekend's tournament with only one top three finish on the year, which came all the way back on October 21st at the Western Shootout. But things started to change when the team was in Las Vegas, as they finished the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invite and Collegiate Shootout (both Tier One events), in 10th and 5th place respectively. There was no individual round at the Storm Baker Challenge, so it was all up to the team to put in the work. Put in the work they did. The Crimson and Gray turned in a baker round score of 8,057, good enough for the number two seed in the bracket round moving forward. From there they defeated Davenport University (198-217, 204-213, 231-187, 256-161, 183-180), and Saint Ambrose University (219-233, 213-242, 216-188, 215-179, 224-187), coming back from a two games to none deficit in each. Unfortunately they couldn't keep the magic going, as they had to settle for a second place finish in their loss to McKendree in four games (208-164, 180-224, 172-226, 194-197) in the championship round.
As for the Lady Wave, they were coming off another great performance in Vegas, securing their fourth top four finish of the season at the Glenn Carlson before coming in a very respectable ninth during the Collegiate Shootout. Unfortunately, the results didn't quite transfer to the Storm Baker Challenge. The Wave struggled during baker round play and finished in 11th place with 6802 total pins. This amount was not good enough to move onto the bracket round, falling just 52 pins behind the eighth seed Lewis University.
WHO'S ON DECK?
Both teams will be heading right back to Addison, Ill. this upcoming weekend to roll in their first Tier One event of the new year when they face off against some of the nation's best at the ISBPA/Kegel Midwest Collegiate Classic. The tournament will start on Saturday morning and will wrap up on Sunday afternoon.
