Crimson Wave baseball drops season opening series to Bethel

McKenzie, TENN. – The Calumet College of St. Joseph baseball team lost the three-game season opening series against Bethel that spanned over Friday, February 9 and Saturday, February 10 at the Kahlden Complex.

CCSJ lost game one 18-6 on Friday afternoon and lost game two 13-0 on Friday evening. The Crimson Wave came back Saturday looking to even the score, but fell in five innings 5-1 in game three. There was supposed to be a fourth game between the two, but the game was cancelled just moments prior to game three.

In Game 1, Gio Pappas and Tyler Brody had two hits apiece. Andrew Davenport pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing nine hits while striking out four batters. Maurey Garrett, Jr. pitched two innings, gave up two runs and struck out three batters. 

In Game 2, Bobby Nowak struck out 10 batters in four innings, while surrendering four hits and five earned runs. Ian Clark allowed four hits while striking out two batters in 1 2/3 innings.

In Game 3, Nicholas Anderson had two hits while Michael Machnic and Brennan Nichols had one hit each. Kali Baughman pitched four innings for the Wave, giving up nine hits and striking out two batters.

The Crimson Wave play again Friday, February 23 against University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy. The double header begins at 12:00 PM CT.
