CCSJ Sprint Football Sweeps MSFL Player of the Week Awards
Jared Cuevas Cottrell, Jamal Warnell and Jeau Vinatieri were all recognized with MSFL Player of the Week honors in Week 4.
Whiting, IN – The Calumet College of St. Joseph Sprint Football team (3-0, 3-0 MSFL) won all three Midwest Sprint Football League Player of the Week awards when the Week 4 awards were announced Tuesday morning.
Junior linebacker Jared Cuevas Cottrell (Griffith, IN / Griffith High School) won MSFL Defensive Player of the Week, junior Jamall Warnell (Orange, TX / Oakdale High School) won MSFL Offensive Player of the Week, and freshman Jeau Vinatieri was named MSFL Special Teams Player of the Week. The trio were vital parts in the Crimson Wave come from behind overtime win over Bellarmine 24-18 last Saturday on October 5.
This is the first time in MSFL history that a team has swept the weekly awards.
Cottrell had 10 total tackles (six solo and four assists), two of which were for a loss of 18 yards. He also had two pass break ups and one interception.
Warnell rushed 12 times for 120 yards to earn his recognition. He averaged 10 yards per carry and his longest rush play was 48 yards.
Vinatieri was 1-of-1 on field goals, making the 42-yard game typing field goal with less than a minute remaining in regulation. He punted the ball six times for an average of 31.3 yards and finished the contest going 1-of-2 on PAT's.
CCSJ returns to the field on Saturday, October 12 as they travel to Oakland City, Indiana to take on the Mighty Oaks at 1:00 p.m. CT at Wood Memorial High School.
