Men's Basketball Celebrate Senior Day
On February 12th, at the Calumet College Rittenmeyer Center, the Crimson Wave Men's Basketball team celebrated their seniors and hosted the Indiana University-Northwest RedHawks. Offensively, the Wave were unable to capitalize, shooting under 30% in total field goal percentage as a team. The Wave dropped the contest to the RedHawks with a final score of 54-76.
In an attempt to get something brewing for the Crimson Wave on the scoring end of the ball, true Freshman Oshawn Lee was atop the scoreboard with 9 points, also contributing 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal. Junior Guard Malik Miller also pushed the Crimson Wave on the offensive side of action in the contest with 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist. Defensively, Sophomore Na'shawn Howze collected three of the Crimson Waves 6 total steals for the team, around his 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 points. Despite a strong fight from the Wave, they were unable to finish at the basket to get atop the RedHawks. In the first half of the action, the Wave shot 26.5% in total field goal percentage, 20% in three-point field goal percentage, and 50% from the free-throw line. After halftime, the Wave were unable to change this fate around. In the second half, the Wave shot for 32.4% in total field goal percentage, 26.7% in three-point field goal percentage, and 50% at the free-throw line. These percentages became the fate of the Crimson Wave being that the RedHawks outshot the Crimson Wave in their percentages making roughly 14% more of their shots throughout the entire contest and in every category. The final score in the Wave loss to the Indiana Northwest RedHawks was 54-76, and the Wave record fell to 5-17 overall and 4-16 in conference play.
The Crimson Wave Men's Basketball team honored 6 seniors prior to the competition on Saturday. Senior Guard Levi Jackson played in 11 games this season with the Wave, shooting a 45.9% field goal percentage, scoring 40 total points, and earning 5 steals. Graduate Senior Forward Ion Falkner played in 23 games this season, shot a 76.9% free-throw percentage, 92 rebounds, 5 blocks, and a total of 94 points. Senior Forward Charles Allen played in 8 games contributing 5 total points and 5 rebounds to the Crimson Wave. Senior Guard Travis McBride played in 22 games throughout the season, he shot for 37% in field goal percentage and a strong 37% in three-point field goal percentage with a total of 140 points. Graduate Senior Guard Lawrence Pointer played in 23 games with a standout 43.4% three-point field goal percentage, 12 steals, and a total of 161 points. Senior Forward Wyatt Hughes played in 23 games in the 2021-2022 season with a standout 88% free-throw percentage, 104 rebounds, 31 assists, and fourth on the roster in total points with 200. The Calumet College Athletic Department and the Men's Basketball team wish these seniors the best of luck in their future endeavors and thanks to them for their hard work, dedication, and leadership in the 2021-22 season!
