Crimson Wave Falls to Indiana University Northwest Wednesday
The Calumet College of St. Joseph men’s basketball team dropped a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference game against Indiana University Northwest, 80-75, at the Savannah Center Gymnasium on Wednesday, November 29.
GARY, Ind. – The Calumet College of St. Joseph men's basketball team dropped a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference game against Indiana University Northwest, 80-75, at the Savannah Center Gymnasium on Wednesday, November 29. The Crimson Wave (2-5, 0-2 CCAC) had a nine-point lead early in the first half but was trailing at halftime and couldn't withhold its marginal lead in the second half.
How it Happened
CCSJ started the first half of the game with an early 16-7 run lead by Raina Henrique and Floyd Davis, as they combined for 14 of the team's first 16 points. After a pair of free throws by Devan Nichols to give Calumet College a 24-16 lead with 7:45 left, IUN went on a 16-7 run of their own to end the half leading 32-31.
The Crimson Wave went back and forth with Indiana University Northwest in the second half as there was eight lead changes. Nichols sunk a 3-pointer to give CCSJ a 54-53 advantage, but immediately after IUN went on a 12-3 run to take an eight-point lead and force Calumet College to take a timeout. Indiana University Northwest would later extend its lead to 12 with two minutes remaining and cruise to the victory.
In total, the Crimson Wave shot 41 percent (26-of-63) from the field and 29 percent (7-of-24) from 3-point range. While CCSJ did make six more free throws than its opponent, they only shot 64 percent (16-of-25) from the free throw line. IUN was able to take advantage of Calumet College scoring 52 points in the paint along with 14 fast break points.
Crimson Wave Leaders
Floyd Davis led all scorers with 19 points, shooting 8-of-10 from the field while making 50 percent of his 3-pointers (1-for-2) and 50 percent of his free throws (2-for-4). Davis also added nine rebounds, four steals and three assists in the loss.
Reginald Loury posted a stat line of 14 points, nine rebounds and two steals Wednesday while Raina Henrique had 12 points, six rebounds and three blocks in just 16 minutes of action. Devan Nichols contributed with 10 points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals while Colby Wiggins chipped in with eight points off the bench.
