Bio

Jason Hawkins was named the 6th men’s basketball head coach in Calumet College of St. Joseph history on April 2, 2024. 

Hawkins now begins his second tenure as the head coach of the men’s basketball program. In 2004, Hawkins was the CCSJ men’s basketball head coach and assistant athletic director for two years, helping lead the men’s basketball program to its first-ever post-season victory. That two-year stint was his first opportunity as a collegiate head coach, but now in his return, Hawkins will be entering his 20th year coaching at the collegiate or high school level.

For the past six years before returning to CCSJ, Hawkins was the men’s basketball head coach at Trinity Christian. In 2020-21, he led Trinity Christian to post-season appearances in both the CCAC Tournament and the NCCAA North Central Regional Tournament.

From 2014-18, Hawkins was the men’s basketball head coach at Don Bosco Prep Institute. During his time, he helped athletes develop and transition to collegiate programs, including 24 student-athletes receiving NCAA Division I scholarships. 

Prior to that, he was the men’s basketball head coach at Indiana University Northwest from 2011-14, helping increase the team’s winning percentage each season he was there.

Hawkins was also the assistant men’s basketball coach for Elmhurst College in 2010 and Valparaiso University in 2006.

In addition to his collegiate level coaching, Hawkins served as an athletic director at Lake Station Edison High School from 2015-18. He was also an athletic director at Charter School of the Dunes in 2014. 

As a student-athlete himself, Hawkins played collegiately at Valparaiso University from 2000-03. Each year of his playing career with Valparaiso they were regular season conference champions. In 2002 they competed in the NCAA Tournament and in 2003 they competed in the NIT Tournament. 

Hawkins earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Valparaiso University in 2003 and later earned his master’s in business administration from Ashford University in 2010.
