Crimson Wave Men's Volleyball sweeps Clarke in season-opener
To open the 2025 regular season, the Calumet College of St. Joseph men's volleyball team swept Clarke 3-0 at Bethel University on Friday, January 31.
Mishawaka, IN – To open the 2025 regular season, the Calumet College of St. Joseph men's volleyball team swept Clarke 3-0 at Bethel University on Friday, January 31.
CCSJ and Clarke battled back and forth to start the match, finding themselves tied at 11. The Crimson Wave then scored five of the next six points to take a 16-12 lead. Back-to-back errors by Clarke at the end of the set helped CCSJ take set one 25-18.
To start the second set, Brayden Richardson dished out two aces to help the Wave take an early 4-0 advantage. The Pride would bring the score within one but couldn't tie the score or take the lead. CCSJ scored seven of the last 10 points to close out Clarke in the second set 25-15.
In the third set, CCSJ held the lead for halfway through the set, before Clarke scored four straight points to take its first lead at 16-15. Clarke's lead grew to as much as five before a Reshawn Allen kill put an end to the run.
The Wave would go on to score five straight points to retake the lead 23-22. Back-to-back aces by Francis Hauze put an end to set three, 26-24, and complete the sweep over the Pride.
As the Wave earned their first win of the season, they also helped head volleyball coach Emilier De Jesus earn his first collegiate head coaching win of his young career.
CCSJ posted the highest hitting percentage of the day with .435 in the first set, featuring 13 kills.
Francis Hauze led the Wave with nine kills and eight service aces. Reshawn Allen had eight kills while Thomas Garbutt had seven kills and six digs. Brayden Richardson had 19 assists and six services aces in the win as well.
The Wave will be back in action tomorrow, February 1 against Bethel at 9 a.m. CST and Cumberland at 11 a.m. CST.
