Crimson Wave Softball splits on day one of PFX Spring Games
Clermont, FL - After a split with Warner and a day of rest, the Calumet College Softball teamv comes back with a doubleheader at The PFX Spring Games. In game one, CCSJ took on the University of Northwestern Ohio and defeated the racers 10-7. In game two, the Wave played Bellevue (NE) but lost 6-4.
Game One: CCSJ 10, UNOH 7
Starting on the mound for CCSJ was Kenzie Lanman, who went 4.1 innings with 2 strikeouts, 7 allowed hits, and 5 earned runs.
UNOH scored first in the top of the 2nd inning, but CCSJ countered in the bottom of the 2nd inning and took a 2-1 lead going into the 3rd inning.
The Crimson Wave broke the game open in the bottom of the 3rd inning, scoring 7 runs as CCSJ loaded the bases and Codilyn Olds walked, scoring Adelina Staden for the third run of the game. Brianne Kosina followed with a walk and scored Alex Navarro, bringing their lead to 4-1.
Kayla Kirmani singled to left field and scored Olds and Sydney Murph.
Roxanne Ines followed with another single to left field, scoring Kosina and Kirmani.
The final run of the inning was off a double from Staden to left field that scored Ines and brought the Crimson Wave's lead to 9-1 going into the 4th inning.
UNOH hit a homerun in the top of the 4th inning, bringing the score to 9-2. The Racers scored again in the top of the 5th inning off another homerun, but three runs total were scored and closed the gap to 9-5.
In the 5th inning, Kylee Bunnell went to the mound for the Wave in relief, striking out 2 and giving up 5 hits and 2 earned runs.
The Wave scored their final run in the bottom of the 5th inning off a single to left field from Navarro, scoring Geralyn Barton and bringing the Wave's lead to 10-5.
At the top of the 6th inning, UNOH doubled and scored two runs cutting CCSJ's lead to 10-7.
The Crimson Wave were silenced at the plate in the bottom of the 6th inning, but did the same to The Racers at the top of the 7th inning to win the game 10-7.
Staden went 3-for-4 at the plate with 1 RBI and Ines was 1-for-3 at the plate with 2 walks.
Game Two: Bellevue 6, CCSJ 4
The Crimson Wave used game one's momentum to score first at the top of the 1st inning off an RBI line drive to left field from Staden.
In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Bellevue scored and tied the game at 1-1.
CCSJ countered at the top of the 3rd inning as Ines scored off an error from the first baseman after a popout, bringing the Wave's lead to 2-1.
The Bruins tied the game up again in the bottom of the 4th inning at 2-2.
Starting off the 5th inning, Ines singled to center field and scored Hallie Semancik, bringing the CCSJ lead to 3-2.
The bottom of the 6th inning gave Bellevue the lead they needed to overcome the Wave, scoring 4 runs and taking a 6-3 lead over CCSJ going into the 7th inning.
CCSJ didn't go quietly, as Geralyn Barton led the inning off with a walk. After 2 outs, Barton made her way to 3rd base after a wild pitch and a stolen base. Ines scored Barton off an error by the shortstop. Despite the effort, the Crimson Wave couldn't pull together enough hits to keep the inning going, losing to the Bruins 6-4.
Ines led the Wave at the plate going 2-for-4 at the plate for CCSJ with 2 RBIs.
Bailey Bennett-Jordan started on the mound for the Wave, going 5 innings with 2 strikeouts, giving up 7 hits, and 2 earned runs. Ines went to the mound in the 6th inning but did not complete the inning, giving up 5 hits and 4 earned runs. Olds went to the mound in relief for CCSJ, getting the final out of the game.
