Crimson Wave Softball wins first CCAC doubleheader of the season with 18 runs scored against IUSB
Whiting, IN - Hosting their first home games of the season, the Calumet College Softball team hosted IU-South Bend. The Crimson Wave started off the day with a 9-1 5-inning win over the Titans and followed with a 9-4 win to secure their first doubleheader sweep of the season.
Game One: CCSJ 9, IUSB 1 - 5 innings
Kenzie Lanman started on the mound for the Crimson Wave, going the full 5 innings with 2 strikeouts and giving up 4 hits and 1 earned run.
The Wave scored their first run in the bottom of the 1st innings after a sacrifice fly to left field from Kylee Slack scored Roxanne Ines.
IU-South Bend scored their only run of the game in the top of the 2nd inning after a double to left field scored one run.
The Crimson Wave started to take off in the bottom of the 2nd inning after a single through the right side from Tiffanie Brieno scored Brianne Kosina. Ines followed up with an RBI single to center, scoring Brieno.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Kenzie Lanman hit a single to right center than scored 2 runs for the Wave, extending their lead to 5-1.
Brieno kicked off the bottom of the 4th inning with a solo homerun to left field. Ines followed again with an RBI after an error from the IUSB shortstop, giving CCSJ the 7-1 lead going into the 5th inning.
The Crimson Wave defense held the Titans in the top of the 5th inning, going into the bottom of the inning with the opportunity to run-rule IUSB. Brieno finished the game for the Wave with a 2-run homerun to center field, scoring the winning runs for CCSJ's 9-1 win.
Brieno led the Wave at the plate, going 3-for-3 with 2 HR's and 4 RBI's. Ines was 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBI's. Lanman earned the win for the Wave on the mound while also going 1-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBI's.
Game Two: CCSJ 9, IUSB 4
Starting on the mound for CCSJ was Codilyn Olds, going 3 innings with 1 strikeout and giving up 2 hits and 2 earned runs.
The Crimson Wave scored first again, but this time in the bottom of the 2nd inning. With bases loaded, Ines walked to score Geralyn Barton from third base and Ryan Regnier followed with another walk to score Brieno from third base. Adelina Staden hit an infield single to score Kayla Kirmani and Slack followed that up with a walk to score Ines.
IUSB socred their first runs of the game in the top of the 3rd inning off a single and then scored again in the top of the 4th inning off a double to cut CCSJ's lead down to 4-2.
The Wave began to pull awak in the bottom of the 4th inning after a double RBI to right field from Staden and a single RBI from Lanman gave the team a 6-2 lead.
Bailey Bennett-Jordan went to the mound for the Wave in relief in the top of the 5th inning, going 3 innings with 1 strikeout and giving up 2 hits and 2 earned runs.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, Slack hit a 3-run homerun to bump up the score to 9-2.
IUSB tried to come back in the top of the 7th inning after a 2-out 2-run double RBI brought the score to 9-4, but the Crimson Wave got the 3rd out to end the game with another win.
Regnier was 3-for-3 at the plate for the Wave with 1 RBI and 1 Walk, Staden was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI's, and Slack was 2-for-3 with 4 RBI's and a walk.
