Crimson Wave lose 74-53 to Roosevelt
Wednesday evening was the first game of the 2021-22 Crimson Wave Women's Basketball season against conference opponent, Roosevelt University, and with new Head Coach Jake Parker. The Crimson Wave only played with 6 players rotating in and out, but the energy from the athletes never left the bench or court. In the first two quarters the Crimson Wave were able to keep the score close, allowing 25 points in the 1st quarter and only 9 points in the 2nd quarter to finish the first half down 21-34.
CCSJ played an aggressive game to keep Roosevelt from getting too far ahead, but in the 3rd quarter the Lakers were able to pull ahead of the Crimson Wave and increase their lead to 23 points. The Crimson Wave didn't let that discourage them, and even outscored Roosevelt in the 4th quarter to close the gap but weren't able to come back enough in the short window of time, losing 74-53.
The Crimson Wave leaders of the night were Shakeana Clark with 17 points, Paris Butler with 3 made 3 pointers, Le'rona Shelby with 16 rebounds, and Zariah Frierson with 5 assists.
The Crimson Wave Women's Basketball team play next on Wednesday at 5 PM for their home opener against St. Francis University.
