Crimson Wave drop overtime game to Hornets

The Crimson Wave Women's Basketball team hosted the Kalamazoo College Hornets on Saturday in their first non-conference game of the season. In a thrilling game, CCSJ and Kalamazoo went back and forth with the lead throughout the game, including the 5 minute overtime, and ultimately defeated the Crimson Wave 80-76.

In the 1st Quarter, the Crimson Wave and the Hornets battled back point after point for a lead but ended the quarter tied 14-14. In the 2nd Quarter, Kalamazoo came out strong and was able to take a lead to put them ahead of CCSJ at the half, 32-25. CCSJ started and finished the 3rd Quarter strong, but the Hornets still had a 1 point lead of 45-44 over the Crimson Wave going into the final quarter. The 4th Quarter was when the Crimson Wave were able to come back and get ahead of the Hornets, but in the final seconds, Kalamazoo scored a 3-pointer to tie the game and force a 5 minute overtime. In the 1st Overtime, Kalamazoo put pressure on the Crimson Wave and was able to push past CCSJ and win the game 80-76. 

The Crimson Wave were 37.6% in Total Field Goals, 12.5% in 3-pointers, and 57.9% from the free-throw line. Zariah Frierson led the Crimson Wave with 39 points, going 10-14 from the free-throw line, and had 6 rebounds and 3 steals, Shakeana Clark had 19 points, 18 rebounds, and 4 blocks, and Markeysha Coleman had 10 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 7 steals.

The Crimson Wave have a brief break until they host Judson University on Saturday, December 4th at 1 pm.
