3 score double-digits in Women’s Basketball loss to Tigers
Wednesday, the Calumet College Women's Basketball team hosted Olivet Nazarene University in what would be a tough match-up for the Crimson Wave as the Tigers were 10-4 in CCAC play.
With 7 players available, the Crimson Wave needed to keep a rotation of players going as ONU continued to rotate 5 players in and out every few minutes to keep the intensity of the game going. The fast-paced Tigers immediately started off the game aggressively, but the Crimson Wave defense were able to keep ONU at bay for a while only allowing them 22 points in the 1st Quarter and scoring 10 points of their own. The 2nd Quarter was when ONU's shooting picked up and their 3-pointers began to fall, but the Crimson Wave picked up a few more points to increase their score and go into the half down 58-22. In the 3rd Quarter, the Crimson Wave were a little more rested and knew what to expect from the Tigers and found their way to put up 20 points, but ONU continued to push the CCSJ defense and scored 32 points. In the final 4th Quarter, the Crimson Wave held ONU to their fewest number of points scored in the game, and even put up 16 of their own points, but it wasn't enough to put a dent in the Tigers lead of 110-58.
Shakeana Clark led the Crimson Wave scoring 20 points, 3 assists, 2 blocks, 2 steals, and 9 rebounds. Zariah Frierson scored 12 points with 2 assists, 2 steals, and 3 rebounds. Elizabeth Davis had 11 points with 1 assist, 1 steal, and 4 rebounds. The team shot 38.6% in Total Field Goals and 57.1% from the Free-Throw line.
The Crimson Wave next travel to St. Ambrose for a Saturday CCAC match-up.
