Crimson Wave loses to St. Ambrose Saturday, 64-49
The CCSJ women’s basketball team fell to CCAC opponent St. Ambrose on Saturday, December 9 at the Rittenmeyer Center.
Whiting, IN. – The Calumet College of St. Joseph women's basketball team hosted Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent St. Ambrose Saturday, December 9 and lost 64-49. CCSJ was able to keep up with St. Ambrose until the third quarter where they found themselves in an 18-point hole that they would not overcome.
How It Happened
The Crimson Wave (0-9, 0-4 CCAC) were playing from behind the entire game as they were trailing 11-4 just six minutes into the first quarter.
After a Destiny Hughes pull up jump shot in transition and a Liberty Wilson 3-pointer and CCSJ was one possession away from taking its first lead.
Trailing by five after the first quarter, St. Ambrose was able to capitalize on Calumet College's inability to score as they outscored the Crimson Wave 18 to nine in the second. CCSJ shot 25 percent from the field in the second quarter.
St. Ambrose extended its lead to as much as 19 in the third quarter and cruised to a CCAC victory.
For the game, Calumet College shot 35 percent (17-of-49) from the field and 18 percent (2-for-11) from behind the arc.
Crimson Wave Leaders
Destiny Hughes led all CCSJ players with 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Marisa Esquivel scored 10 points and had seven rebounds while Vanessa Howell chipped in with seven points.
