Crimson Wave Women's Basketball ends season with loss on Senior Day to Olivet Nazarene
The CCSJ women's basketball team season came to an end after its final game of the season on Saturday, February 24. The Wave lost to Olivet Nazarene 99-73 on Senior Day at the Rittenmeyer Center.
Whiting, IN – The Calumet College of St. Joseph women's basketball team fell to Olivet Nazarene 99-73 on Senior Day at the Rittenmeyer Center on Saturday, February 24. The lone senior was Destiny Hughes, who finished the game with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists.
How It Happened
In the first quarter, the Wave were keeping pace with Olivet Nazarene until ONU put together a 17-2 in the final four minutes. Olivet Nazarene shot 16 3-pointers, attempting to put away CCSJ early.
Calumet College handled the pressure much better in the second quarter, outscoring ONU 20 to 15. Things flipped in the second half as CCSJ was outscored 53 to 38. For the game, Olivet Nazarene shot a lower field goal and 3-point percentage, but they took 34 more shots than the Wave.
The Crimson Wave did score 10 more points in the paint than Olivet Nazarene, but ONU's bench scored 61 points compared to CCSJ's 14.
Crimson Wave Leaders
Four players were double-digit scorers as Marisa Esquivel led with a team-high 16 points. Destiny Hughes had 14 points and five rebounds while Vanessa Carrera had 14 points and four rebounds. Amaris Gonzalez added 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals while Hailey Vanderhye chipped in with nine points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.
