CCSJ Women's Basketball falls to Holy Cross Saturday
Notre Dame, IN – The shorthanded Calumet College of St. Joseph women's basketball team struggled in a loss to Holy Cross 127-53 on Saturday, December 21 at the McKenna Arena. CCSJ only had six players available to play in this game and were without starting point guard Priscilla Diaz, who is recovering from a shoulder injury.
How it Happened
Holy Cross (7-5, 2-3 CCAC) started the game with 34 unanswered points to put the Crimson Wave (2-11, 0-5 CCAC) in a huge deficit eight minutes into the game.
After missing its first six shots, CCSJ was able to get on the scoreboard after Nicole Swain made a jump shot at the 1:47 mark. The sluggish start from the Crimson Wave had them trailing by 37 after the first quarter and 46 at halftime.
Holy Cross would continue to add to their lead, outscoring Calumet College 56 to 28 in the second half. CCSJ shot 20-of-53 (37.7 percent) from the field and 2-of-7 (28.6 percent) from 3-point range. They committed 31 turnovers in the loss and only recorded four assists as a team, its third lowest output this season.
Crimson Wave Leaders
Ariana Lemons had 14 points and five rebounds while Markisha Pritchett had 11 points and five rebounds. Amelia Scorsone added nine points and seven rebounds off the bench.
