Crimson Wave fall in road game against St. Ambrose
Davenport, IA – The Calumet College of St. Joseph women's basketball team fell 70-50 to St. Ambrose on Monday afternoon at Lee Lohman Arena.
How it Happened
The Fighting Bees (4-9, 2-4 CCAC) got off to a good start at home, scoring six straight unanswered points. CCSJ (2-12, 0-6 CCAC) was able to respond and take its first lead of the game at 12-10 after a Priscilla Diaz layup.
The 12 to four run by the Wave forced St. Ambrose to take its first timeout and reset its defense.
St. Ambrose began to full court press CCSJ, which is something that the Wave have seen multiple times throughout the season but have also struggled with.
The full court press disrupted the Crimson Wave's early offense, forcing them to commit six straight turnovers. St. Ambrose took advantage of CCSJ's mistakes, ending the first quarter on a 12-2 run.
The second quarter was more of the same, as the Wave committed 11 turnovers and the St. Ambrose lead grew to as much as 18.
CCSJ was able to cut the lead down to 14, but ultimately couldn't climb out of the deficit.
Crimson Wave Leaders
Priscilla Diaz led the Crimson Wave with 17 points, while also recording six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Amelia Scorsone had 10 points, eight rebounds and six blocks while A'Niyah Moreno had eight points and eight rebounds.
