Rodriguez makes all-tournament team, CCSJ finish 5th in Las Vegas Glenn Carlson Invitational
While the Crimson Wave women’s bowling team placed fifth overall after nine qualifying rounds, Savanah Rodriguez was recognized as a member of the women’s all-tournament at the Glenn Carlson Invitation in Las Vegas on December 19.
Las Vegas, NV – The Calumet College women's bowling team traveled to Nevada for their four-day bowling competition that features some of the top-ranked teams across the country. On December 18-19, CCSJ competed in the Glenn Carlson Invitational where they finished fifth overall after nine qualifying rounds. Based on individual performances, Savanah Rodriguez was recognized as a women's all-tournament team member as she finished in the top-5 amongst more than 200 bowlers.
Starting off the invite, the Crimson Wave finished in fourth place after three games with an overall total score of 2922. Calumet College dropped to fifth after games six and seven. CCSJ dropped to sixth after the eighth game played but went back up to fifth place after a great game in round nine to post an overall total score of 8569.
During the qualifying rounds, Savanah Rodriguez was outside the top-5 after three games, but quickly rose to four after seven games. Seven games in she had a total score of 1499, just 34 points outside of the top-3. Rodgriguez would maintain her top-5 standing and finish with a total score of 1893. Her tournament average score was 210.33 through nine games.
"Savanah has been great, and she's been dialed into since we've been in Vegas," assistant coach Linda Olszewski said. "She's been very solid and consistent and we're very proud of her."
CCSJ battled hard in the opening round of the single elimination tournament as they faced 4-seeded St. Francis and lost the best of five series 3-2.
Other bowlers had great performances in the 2-day competition including Morgan Schoon, who finished 19th overall with a total of 1758 and a tournament average of 195.33 through nine games. Brooklinn Chavez finished just outside the top-50 with an overall score of 1585, giving her a tournament average of 198.13 through eight games. Piper Plautz posted a total of 1553 in nine games, for an average of 172.56, while Law'ren Betterson scored a 161 in the one game she played. Alyssa Olson bowled one game and recorded a 110.
Collegiate Shoot-Out
After placing fifth in the two-day invitational, the Crimson Wave looked to keep up if not improve their play at the Collegiate Shoot-Out, where many of the same teams were competing.
CCSJ had a strong performance in the tournament as they placed ninth overall after six games played. Despite not qualifying for the semi-final matches, Calumet College ranked in the top-10 after competing against 32 other teams.
The Crimson Wave recorded an overall team score of 8557 and sophomore Paige Plautz lead the team with a top-15 performance.
Individually, Plautz finished at 12th with a total score of 1181. For the tournament, Plautz averaged 196.83 through six games.
Savanah Rodriguez finished in 100th place with an individual total of 905, which gave her a tournament average of 181 in five games. Piper Plautz finished at 102nd place, recording an individual total of 904. Her tournament average in five games was 180.8.
Brooklinn Chavez came in 140th after posting a total of 704 in four games. Alyssa Olson placed at 164th individually, with a score of 583 in three games. Chavez finished with a tournament average of 176 while Olson finished with a tournament average of 194.33.

The Crimson Wave finished 2023 with a 5th and 9th place finish and are on break until January when the Wave returns to Addison, IL for the Kegel Midwest tournament and the Storm Baker Challenge.
