Crimson Wave Women’s Bowling concludes 2023-24 season at USBC Intercollegiate Sectional

Addison, IL – The Calumet College of St. Joseph women's bowling team participated in the USBC Intercollegiate Sectionals that began on Friday, March 8 and ended Sunday, March 10. Individually, the Crimson Wave competed in the single's sectional qualifier on Friday. No one from the team was able to qualify for nationals, but Brooklinn Chavez was just seven pins away from making that happen. As a team, CCSJ finished 14th overall in the team sectional qualifier that started Saturday, March 9 and ended Sunday.

On Friday, four singles sectional qualifiers took place across the country and CCSJ had the opportunity to compete close to home in Addison, Illinois at Stardust Bowl. Amongst stiff competition that consisted of 219 total bowlers, the Crimson Wave had four bowlers place in the top-100.

Paige Plautz finished in 43rd place, Morgan Schoon came in 82nd place and Lauren Brown finished in 93rd place. The stand out individual for CCSJ was junior Brooklinn Chavez, who finished 9th with a total of 1296 in six games. Averaging 216 per game, her performance placed her right outside the top-8 and unfortunately, the cut off mark to make it nationals is eight per location. Chavez was a mere seven pins away from making history for the Crimson Wave.

The following two days, CCSJ battled hard as a team in attempt to keep the season alive. After 32 baker games on Saturday, the Crimson Wave were sitting in 12th place. After another 32 baker games on Sunday, they dropped back two spots and placed 14th overall with a total of 11,606.

Despite not getting the outcome they would have hoped for at sectionals, five Crimson Wave bowlers were recognized over the weekend. Morgan Schoon, Piper Plautz, Brooklinn Chavez, Savanah Rodriguez and Law'ren Betterson were all awarded the Collegiate Scholar Athlete Award, given out by the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association.

Congratulations to these individuals and the entire women's bowling team and staff for an outstanding season!
