BOWLING PROGRAMS ANNOUNCE 2017-18 SCHEDULE
WHITING, Ind.- The Calumet College of St. Joseph men's and women's bowling teams announced it's 2017-18 schedule on Friday morning, as both will start the road back to the national championships in just a few short weeks.
Following a 13th place finish at the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships last season, coach Mike Kubacki's team will see their first action next weekend when they travel to Lafayette, Ind. to play in the Boilermaker Classic on Sept. 30-Oct. 1. Randy Vania's women's crew will join in on the fun when both teams head to Wauwatosa, Wis. to participate in the Midwest Collegiate Tournament (Oct. 7-8), followed by the Western Shootout in Indianapolis, Ind. on Oct. 21-22 to close out the month.
November will see both squads in action only once, as the Lady Wave will travel down south to Jeffersontown, Ky. for the Striking Knights Classic (Nov. 18-19). Meanwhile the men will take the short trip to the Leatherneck Classic in Moline, Ill. on Nov. 11-12
Both the men and women Crimson Wave bowlers will call Las Vegas, Nev. home for four days in December, competing in both the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational (Dec. 18-19) and the Collegiate Shootout (Dec. 20-21).
After the holidays, both groups will head to Addison, Ill. twice, facing competition at the Roto Grip Eagles Baker Challenge (Jan 13-14) and the ISBPA/Kegel Midwest Collegiate Classic (Jan. 20-21).
The season will conclude in February for both teams, as the men engage in action at the Norse Collegiate Classic (Feb. 3-4), before joining up with the women again for the season's second tournament in Indianapolis, the Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic (17-18) to close out the regular season.
The Crimson and Gray bowling programs will kickoff the postseason at sectional qualifying (March 9-11) in hopes of playing at the NAIA Invitational Championships, played in Highland, Ind, on the 23-25 of March. Nationals are slated for April 17-21 in Lincoln, Neb.
Coach Vania is excited to build off last years successes. "Last season, we narrowly qualified for the NAIA (Championships), where the competition has continued to grow throughout the country and only the top 20 teams are invited. It was at this event last year where we had one of our season's finest performances, and we will especially look forward to another opportunity to capture this national title in front of our home town fans and supporters."
Echoing the same sentiments, Coach Kubacki raved about the roster he is bringing into the season. "Going into our 12th season of the Crimson wave men's bowling program this may be the deepest team we've had in our program's history. We have a great blend of junior and senior captains along with a very strong freshman group. I'm very excited to see what this year's team can accomplish."
