Crimson Wave Baseball defeats Siena Heights in two-day series

Lake Wales, FL - The Calumet College Baseball team started their Florida campaign with two games over two days against Siena Heights. The Crimson Wave took game one on Monday with a score of 17-9 and played a close game on Tuesday to earn the 7-6 win. 

 

Game One: CCSJ 17, Siena Heights 9

The Crimson Wave started off game one scoring two runs in the top of the 1st inning off a single to right field from Gabriel Quinones, scoring Nicholas Anderson and Darrius Little.

Sean Moore started on the mound for CCSJ, going 1.2 innings with 2 strikeouts, 3 hits, and 5 earned runs.

In the top of the 2nd inning, the Wave took off, starting off with a solo home run from Blaze Cano. Sean Moore hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Julian Santoyo. Little doubled down the right field line to score Maruey Garrett Jr. Michael Machnic hit a double, scoring Little and bringing the Wave's lead to 6-0. 

The Saints scored their first runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning, scoring 5 runs and forcing a pitching change for CCSJ as Gerardo Hernandez entered the game and gave up a total of 2 hits and 2 earned runs. 

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Jacob Pevion went to the mound for Hernandez and went 2.1 innings with 3 strikeouts and 3 hits allowed. The Saints scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd and took a 7-6 lead over Siena Heights. 

In the 5th inning, Cody Wilkins went to the mound in relief for Pevion and in 4.2 innings of play gave up 5 hits and no earned runs. 

Cano led off the 6th inning and hit another solo home run to tie the game up. Anderson followed with a single to right field, scoring Nino Barbosa. Up next, Mechanic doubled to left center and scored Moore and Anderson, giving CCSJ the 10-7 lead. 

CCSJ stepped up at the plate again in the top of the 7th as Garrett walked with bases loaded to score Michael Feliciano, Barbosa scored on a passed ball, Anderson was hit by a pitch to score Garrett, and Quinones was hit by a pitch to score Moore to break the tie and lead the game 14-7.

In the 8th inning, Moore singled up the middle and scored Cano and Barbosa to take their lead to 16-7. 

The Crimson Wave scored their last runs of the game in the 9th inning on an error from the shortstop to score Quinones and extended CCSJ's lead to 17-7.

In the bottom of the 9th inning, the Saints scored 2 runs but it wasn't enough to overcome the Wave. 

 

Game Two: CCSJ 7, Siena Heights 6

Starting off day two, the Crimson Wave started off the bottom of the 1st inning scoring one run off a single from Anderson up the middle to score Moore. 

The Saints countered with a homerun to tie the game in the top of the 2nd inning. 

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Anderson hit another RBI single to score Moore and Garrett and take a 3-1 lead.

The Wave held the lead until the top of the 6th inning when Siena Heights scored two runs off an error to tie the game. In the top of the 7th inning the Saints took the lead off a single to left center and then extended their lead at the top of the 8th inning off a single to score two runs, leading 6-3. 

In the bottom of the 8th inning, the Crimson Wave broke the game open scoring 4 runs off a walk RBI,  passed ball, 2 RBI single from Moore, and fielder's choice RBI, taking the 7-6 lead. 

The Crimson Wave defense held off the Saints at the top of the 9th inning to finish with the comeback 7-6 win.

Moore went 2-for-4 at the plate with 1 walk, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. Anderson went 2-for-5 with 4 RBIs. Andrew Davenport was 2-for-4 at the plate.

William LePretre Jr. started on the mound for the Crimson Wave and in 6 innings of play, struck out 4, allowed 5 hits, 1 HR, and 1 earned run. Zack Zborowski went to the mound in the 7th inning, giving up 2 hits and 1 earned run with 1 strike out. Anthony Rivera started on the mound in the 8th inning, earning 2 strike outs, but giving up 3 hits and 2 earned runs. Jorge Sanots finished on the mound for the Crimson Wave with 1 strike out.
