Crimson Wave Earn Four All-Conference Honors

Chicago, IL – The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) announced Thursday the 2024 Baseball Postseason Awards and four members of the Calumet College of St. Joseph baseball team were honored.

Michael Machnic was named the conference Gold Glove recipient at first base. Machnic, a graduate student, earned this award for his defensive prowess. Machnic had a fielding percentage of .997 this season with just one error on 351 total chances in 48 games. The Walkerton, Indiana native also had 331 putouts with 19 assists and helped turn 15 double plays. 

Offensively, Machnic posted 41 hits, 15 doubles, five home runs and 38 RBIs. He finished the season with a .268 batting average, a .402 on-base percentage and a .464 slugging percentage.

For the second time in three years, Andrew Davenport earned a spot on the All-CCAC team. Davenport, a senior right-handed pitcher from Griffith, Indiana, earned an upgrade from a second-team selection two years ago for his play at the plate to being a first-team choice for his play at the mound this season.

Davenport pitched 75 innings and ended the year with a 5.38 ERA. He had four wins this season, which all came against CCAC opponents. He finished with 56 strikeouts and allowed 99 hits.

     

Tommy Benson, an outfielder from Crown Point, Indiana, earned All-CCAC Second-Team honors. Benson finished the season with a .339 batting average, a .434 on-base percentage and a .649 slugging percentage. He posted 57 hits, 14 doubles, and 44 RBIs through 47 games played. 

Benson also had a fielding percentage of .939 this season with five errors in 82 total chances. He also had 57 putouts with 20 assists and helped turn four double plays.

Bobby Nowak, a right-handed pitcher from Cedar Lake, Indiana, earned All-CCAC Second-Team recognition. At the mound, Nowak pitched 46 innings and ended with a 4.47 ERA. He had a record of 5-3, striking out 68, while giving up 38 hits.
