Sprint Football comes up short in home opener against SMWC

Whiting, IN - Kicking off the second season of Midwest Sprint Football, Calumet College, the reigning regular season champions, hosted St. Mary-of-the-Woods, the reigning postseason champions. The fourth meeting for the two teams had tensions high as the Crimson Wave had yet to beat SMWC in Whiting. The Crimson Wave struggled with penalties and to find the endzone and the Pomeroys raced to a 28-10 win over CCSJ.

How it Happened

CCSJ started off the game strong with a pick-6 in the first two minutes of the game as Nino Barbosa intercepted a Pomeroy's pass and returned for a 48-year touchdown.

SMWC tied the game towards the end of the 1st Quarter in 10 plays, the longest series of plays in the game.

The 2nd Quarter was quiet for both teams and after halftime, it took 6 minutes for the Wave to put their final points on the board. Jared Saez kicked a 20-yard field goal to give CCSJ a 10-7 lead.

The Pomeroys took their first lead of the game in the 3rd Quarter after a 5-yard rush. SMWC missed the field goal kick, but an offsides call on CCSJ gave the Pomeroys another opportunity to kick as they took a 14-10 lead.

In the 4th Quarter, the Crimson Wave hit a wall on offense and couldn't get anything going as SMWC scored two more touchdowns to take the 28-10 win over CCSJ.
