Sprint Football earns first win of the season with a shutout over Oakland City

Oakland City, IN - After being winless for three straight weeks, the Calumet College Sprint Football team earned their first win of the season over first-year team, Oakland City. 

The Crimson Wave were off the a quick start, scoring their first touchdown after 8 minutes of play in the 1st Quarter. QB Javeion Lewis ran in for a 3-yard touchdown for the 6-0 lead, and Jared Saez kicked in the 7th point of the game. 

Towards the beginning of the 2nd Quarter, Elijah Antis scored the second touchdown of the game with a 2-yard run. The Wave opted for the 2-point conversion as Lewis passed to Jared Cuevas Cottrell, bringing CCSJ's lead to 15-0.

With 9:18 on the scoreboard, Saez kicked a 32-yard field goal to increase the Crimson Wave's lead to 18-0. Then in the final second of the 2nd Quarter, Saez kicked a 33-yard field goal to secure the team's 21-0 win. 

Although the offense was silent in the second half of the game, the defense played strong, not allowing the Mighty Oaks to score and recording more than 15 tackles in the 3rd and 4th Quarters. 

Alexander Dellaechaie led the Wave with 6 tackles, Josh Tejeda had 5 with a sack and 2 forced fumbles, and Nino Barbosa had 4 tackles.

The Crimson Wave have a bye week and return back to Whiting on Oct. 21st to host Fontbonne University in their Homecoming matchup.
