Crimson Wave Men’s Basketball earns 70-62 win over St. Ambrose

Davenport, IA – The CCSJ men's basketball team won its second straight game after beating St. Ambrose 70-62 on Wednesday, January 31 at the Lee Lohman Arena. Prior to last week, the Crimson Wave had only won two Chicago Collegiate Athletic Conference games this entire season. Within the past four days, Calumet College has won two CCAC games, both against opponents currently sitting above them in the standings, including Roosevelt who's only CCAC came at the hands of the Wave.

How it Happened

To start the game, Joshua Morris and Devan Nichols scored four points apiece to help the Crimson Wave (6-14, 4-9 CCAC) take an early 8-5 lead.

After St. Ambrose (11-10, 8-5 CCAC) took the lead at 10-8, CCSJ went on a 13 to five run to force the Fighting Bees to take their first timeout of the game.

Calumet College's defense held strong in the first half, forcing St. Ambrose to only eight made field goals while taking a five-point lead into halftime.

Five minutes into the second half, Colby Wiggins scored five quick points and Floyd Davis made a spot-up jump shot to give the Crimson Wave their largest lead of the game at 11. 

Over the next 10 minutes, St. Ambrose outscored Calumet College 26 to 14 to retake the lead 50-49 with 7:18 remaining.

Less than five minutes left in the contest, Davis would make a point-blank layup, followed by a Reginald Loury 3-pointer to retake the lead. Davis made back-to-back layups in a matter of 30 seconds and Colby Wiggins made a jump shot from the corner to seal the game. Down the stretch, the Wave forced St. Ambrose to commit three crucial turnovers and shoot 1-for-5 in the final four minutes.

As a team, Calumet College shot 48 percent (28-of-58) from the field and 36 percent (8-for-22) from behind the arc. CCSJ also dished out 19 assists in the win and scored 26 points off the Fighting Bees 22 turnovers. 

Crimson Wave Leaders

Floyd Davis had 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the win while Reginald Loury had 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Oshawn Lee came off the bench and had seven points, along with a team-high six assists while Rasmus Westerlund had seven points as well.
