Crimson Wave wins third-straight game with road win over Holy Cross

Notre Dame, IN – The CCSJ men's basketball team earned its third straight win after taking down Holy Cross 86-69 on Saturday, February 3 at the McKenna Arena. This is the first since 2018 that the Crimson Wave have won three straight games, let alone, won three straight conference games.

How it Happened

Arguably playing as one of the best teams in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, Calumet College (12-9, 9-4) got off to a hot start in this game against Holy Cross (8-14, 3-11).

Within the first two minutes Devan Nichols swished a 3-pointer to give CCSJ its first lead of the game. Moments later with the game tied at 10, the Crimson Wave went on a 14 to three run to take a double-digit they wouldn't surrender.

CCSJ was having another stellar shooting performance in the first half, shooting 58 percent (19-of-33) from the field and 50 percent (10-for-20) from behind the arc. Both Nichols and Rasmus Westerlund made four 3-pointers apiece.

The Crimson Wave defense that hasn't given up 70 points in its last three games, showed up again, holding the Saints to just 3-of-10 shooting from 3-point range in the first half.

With a 20-point lead entering the second half, the Wave had no issue holding on as they extended their lead to as much 28 after Westerlund converted a three-point play at the 9:03 mark.

In the win, CCSJ shot above 50 percent from the field for the fourth time this season. They also shot 13-of-14 from the free throw line which is a season-high.
