Softball sweeps Trinity International

Whiting, IN - The Calumet College Softball team hosted Trinity International for their second doubleheader of the week. Coming off a tough two-game loss to St. Ambrose on Thursday, the Crimson Wave were looking for much-needed wins to keep their CCAC Softball tournament goals alive. The Wave did just that and swept Trinity International with an 11-3 game one win and a 6-4 game two win.

Game One: CCSJ 11, TIU 3 - 5 innings

The Crimson Wave started Josselline Monge in the circle, going 5 innings with 7 strikeouts and allowing 2 earned runs off 5 hits and one walk.

The Crimson Wave started off the bottom of the 1st inning scoring 4 runs off a single 2-run RBI from Kylee Slack and a 2-run RBI double from Grace Elrod to take the lead 4-0. In the top of the 3rd inning, TIU took advantage of some Wave errors and scored 3 runs to bring the score to 4-3. That didn't distract the Crimson Wave as the team increased their lead in the bottom of the 3rd with another 2-run RBI double from Elrod, a single RBI from Adelina Staden, and an RBI double from Priscilla Seniw. The Wave scored their final runs that secured their win in the bottom of the 4th inning off an RBI single from Elrod, a sac fly RBI from Staden, and an RBI single from Seniw to win game one 11-3.

Elrod led the Wave at the plate, going 3-3 with 2 doubles and 5 RBIs. Slack was 2-3 with 2 RBIs and a double, and Seniw went 2-3 with 2 RBIs and a double.

Game Two: CCSJ 6, TIU 4

Kenzie Lanman started on the mound in game two for the Crimson Wave and went the full 7 innings giving up 4 runs off 9 hits with 2 walks and a hit by pitch. The Wave backed up Lanman in the circle, only making 1 error in the second game to continue giving themselves a chance as their offense started off slow.

The Crimson Wave scored 1 run in the bottom of the 1st innings off a sacrifice RBI from Kayla Kirmani. In the top of the 2nd inning, TIU scored 2 runs to take the lead over the Wave 2-1. The Crimson Wave began their comeback in the bottom of the 3rd inning with a single RBI from Slack and a single RBI from Alex Navarro. In the bottom of the 4th inning, Ryan Regnier hit a single RBI bringing the Wave's lead to 4-2.

Trinity International scored another run in the top of the 5th inning to bring the score to 4-3, but a bottom of the 5th inning RBI from Elrod and a 6th inning single RBI from Kirmani gave the Wave a 6-3 lead going into the 7th inning. TIU scored another run in the top of the 7th to bring the score to 6-4, but the Crimson Wave's defense shut down any chance of the Trojans making a comeback and secured their 6-4 win.

Regnier and Slack were both 2-4 with 1 RBI and Brianne Kosina had 2 walks with 2 runs scored for the Wave in game two.

The Crimson Wave's next matchup is on Tuesday against #23 St. Xavier at the Whiting Sports Complex at 3 and 5 PM.
