Crimson Wave Softball goes 1-1 on first day in Florida

Melbourne, FL - The Calumet College Softball team started their spring trip with a doubleheader at the USSSA Space Coast in Melbourne, Florida. The Crimson Wave started off the day with a 3-0 8-inning win against Huntington University but ended with a 5-3 loss to Goshen College. 

 

Game One: CCSJ 3, Huntington 0 - 8-innings

The Crimson Wave defense held the Foresters from scoring throughout the game, leaving 7 runners on base, as Junior Kenzie Lanman pitched a full 8 innings for CCSJ.

CCSJ also struggled to score runners, leaving 8 on base throughout the game. The momentum changed in the top of the 8th inning as Adelina Staden doubled to left field, scoring Roxanne Ines and Kylee Slack to score the game's first runs. 

A few batters later, Sydney Murph doubled to center field, scoring Tiffanie Brieno to bring the lead to 3-0 going into the bottom of the 8th inning. Lanman faced 4 batters in the final half inning, and with 3 groundouts the Wave won their first game of the Florida trip 3-0. 

Staden and Murph led the Wave at the plate, going 2-for-4, Staden with 2 RBIs and Murph with 1 RBI. Lanman allowed just 2 hits in 8 innings and had 2 strikeouts. 

 

Game Two: Goshen 5, CCSJ 3

The Crimson Wave started off game two with a two-run homerun from Staden to give CCSJ the 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. 

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Wave scored off an error from the center fielder, scoring Brieno to bring CCSJ's lead to 3-0. 

From there, Goshen scored their first runs in the top of the 3rd inning to cut the Wave's lead down to 3-2. In the top of the 4th inning, the Maple Leafs tied the game.

Goshen took a two-run lead over CCSJ in the top of the 7th inning and held the Crimson Wave from scoring runners to get the 5-3 win.

Staden led the Wave at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and Ines went 2-for-4. 

Codilyn Olds started on the mound for the Wave, going 4 complete innings with 3 strikeouts, 2 earned runs, and 4 allowed hits. Kylee Bunnell came into the game at the top of the 5th inning and struck out 2 with 3 hits allowed and 1 earned run.
