Crimson Wave Softball run-rules Cardinal Stritch for home doubleheader sweep

Whiting, IN - After a week's break, the Calumet College Softball team returned to the field with a home doubleheader against Cardinal Stritch. The Crimson Wave came out strong in game one with 13 hits to run-rule the Wolves 11-3 in 5 innings. In game two, the Wave had a slow start but the bats came alive in the 2nd and 4th innings to run-rule Cardinal Stritch 8-0 and complete the doubleheader sweep.

Game One: CCSJ 11, CSU 3

KEY MOMENTS

  • Bailey Bennett-Jordan started on the mound for the Wave, pitching 4 innings with 4 strikeouts and just 4 hits and 1 earned run allowed.

  • Adelina Staden scored the first runs of the game with a triple RBI and then scored off a wild pitch to give the Wave the 2-0 lead

  • In the 3rd and 4th innings, Cardinal Stritch scored 3 runs to take the 3-2 lead

  • Tiffanie Brieno tied the game in the bottom of the 4th with a solo homerun

  • Roxanne Ines hit a 3 RBI double to left field to extend CCSJ lead to 6-3

  • Staden hit a sacrifice fly RBI, Kylee Slack hit a single RBI, and Alex Navarro 2 RBI triple to bring the score to 10-3

  • Kylee Slack went to the mound in relief in the top 5th inning, striking out 2 and giving up 1 hit

  • Ines hit the walk-off single in the bottom of the 5th inning to score CCSJ's 11th win

Game Two: CCSJ 8, CSU 0

KEY MOMENTS

  • Kenzie Lanman got the game-two start, pitching 4 innings with 5 strikeouts and giving up just 3 hits

  • Staden hit an RBI double to score the first run of the game in the bottom of the 1st inning

  • Ryan Regnier hit a 2 RBI single through the right side to extend the Wave's lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the 2nd

  • Staden hit a 2 RBI double to the left side to finish the 2nd inning ahead 5-0

  • In the bottom of the 4th, Regnier hit a single RBI and Staden a double RBI to lead 7-0

  • Kylee Bunnell went to the mound in relief at the top of the 5th inning, seeing 4 batters and giving up 1 hit

  • In the bottom of the 5th, Codilyn Olds hit an RBI to score the 8th and final run of the game

The Crimson Wave (11-19, 5-3 CCAC) are back on the road this weekend with a Saturday doubleheader at Olivet Nazarene and on Sunday against Roosevelt.
