Sprint Football wins first game with a 35-0 shutout over Midway

Whiting, IN - A Calumet College Homecoming like no other. 

The Crimson Wave Sprint Football closed out CCSJ Homecoming activities on Saturday night and finished with the first-ever Sprint Football win over Midway University. After a tough overtime loss in the inaugural game against St. Mary-of-the-Woods, the Wave were hungry for their first win and succeeded with a 35-0 victory over the Eagles. 

How it Happened

The Crimson Wave kicked off to the Eagles and held their defense in 4 plays. After a couple of close runs up the field from the Wave the Week 1 MSFL Offensive Player of the Week, Jonathon Flemings, rushed for 20 yards then another 11 yards to score the first Crimson Wave touchdown of the game. 

Within minutes of the 2nd Quarter starting, the Wave got the ball and after 16 plays finally made it down the field for Carson Crowe to rush in for 5 yards to lead the Eagles 14-0. For the rest of the 1st half, the Crimson Wave were quiet but went into Halftime leading 14-0 and had the momentum going into the 3rd Quarter. 

The Crimson Wave finished up the 3rd Quarter scoring their third touchdown of the evening. After a 67-yard rush from Flemings, the field was set as Crowe ran 11-yards for another touchdown and brought the Wave's lead to 21-0. 

After 10 plays to start the 4th Quarter, Elijah Antis ran in for the fourth touchdown of the night and quickly brought up the Crimson Wave's lead to 28-0. At the 6-minute mark, the Eagles had the ball, and on their first play CCSJ's Isaac Hegwood intercepted at the Midway 45-yard line and returned for a 45-yard touchdown and brought the lead up to 35-0. The Crimson Wave defense shut down Midway's final chance to get on the board and secured their first shutout of the season and the highest-scoring MSFL game of the year. 

Flemings led the Wave, rushing for 163 yards with 1 touchdown. QB, Blaze Cano rushed for 92 yards to help set up Wave scoring opportunities. Markehi Whitlock led the Crimson Wave in receiving with 47-yards. Kicker, Christian Price, was 5 for 5 in extra point field goals and kicked off a total of 100 yards. Jared Saez punted for a total of 162 yards with 154 yards in 4 kickoffs and had 2 tackles. Brian Walker ted the Wave's defense with 7 tackles. Josh Tejeda had 6 tackles with a QB Hurry. Nazir Fort had 5 tackles and 2 QB Hurries. 

What's Next

Saturday, October 1st is the Crimson Wave's first away game as they travel to St. Louis, Missouri to take on Fontbonne University.
