Sprint Football earns 3rd MSFL win with 46-7 win over Quincy

Quincy, IL - The Calumet College Sprint Football team traveled to Quincy University for their second away game of the season and ended the trip with a dominant 46-7 win over the Hawks.

How it Happened

The Crimson Wave kicked off to the Hawks and ended their run after 5 plays when Isiah Byrd intercepted a Quincy pass. The Wave's offense took a while in the 1st Quarter to get going, but the defense kept Quincy at bay. In the final minutes, Blaze Cano made an 8-yard pass to Lauren Ruth to score the first touchdown of the game with a good extra points kick from Christian Price to give the Wave a 7-0 lead. In the quarter's final seconds, Cano passed again for a touchdown but this time to Claijuan Cash to give the Wave a 13-0 lead. 

In the 2nd Quarter, CCSJ scored their 3rd touchdown after a Pick 6 from Jaquan Bridges as Quincy's pass bounced off the Hawks' helmet in their own endzone. Price's kick was good, and the Crimson Wave made a quick 20-0 lead. The Wave scored again as Price added 3 points to the scoreboard with a 20-yard field goal to go into the half with a 23-0 lead.

The HAwks started the 3rd Quarter with their first and only touchdown of the game after a blocked CCSJ punt that Quincy recovered and ran in for a 27-yard touchdown. The Wave quickly answered on the next CCSJ drive, Elijah Antis rushed in for a 4-yard touchdown and the PAT kick was good for a 30-7 Crimson Wave lead. Minutes later, Cano made another pass to Ruth for a touchdown and bring the lead to 36-7.

The Crimson Wave started the 4th Quarter with the ball and couldn't quite make it in the endzone, but made it far enough for Jared Saez to make a 29-yard field goal as the Wave led 39-7. For the final Wave score of the game, Quindarius Davis intercepted Quincy's pass and returned for a 51-yard touchdown, bringing the lead to 46-7.

Cano led the Wave in passing, throwing for 148 yards and Carson Crowe finished with 30 passing yards. Jonathan Flemings rushed for 66 yards and Antis finished with 33 rushing yards and a touchdown. Ruth led with 74 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns, Robert Shegog had 39 receiving yards and Flemings with 38-yards. Isaac Hegwood finished with 18 total tackles and a breakup and Trevor Busse had 10 tackles with an interception and 3 breakups. Saez punted for 169 yards and had 369 kickoff yards.
