Crimson Wave Track & Field Compete at CCAC Indoor Championships

This past weekend the Wave's competed in the CCAC Indoor Championship at Olivet Nazarene University.  The Wave's had a great showing.  Five PRs were set by four athletes who ran personal best times and the team secured an All-Conference 3rd place finish by Isaac Sytsma in the 800-meter run.

Junior Zoie Ison led the Women's Wave team with her 10th place finish in the 400-meter dash. Ison's time of 1:03.83 was a personal best. Senior Isabel Rocha competed in the 800-meter run where she finished in 14th place with a time of 2:48.25 just off of her personal best time of 2:48.23. Freshman Maya Butler hit a PR in the 200-meter run with a time of 30.87; dropping a full second off her best time and finishing in 22nd place. Junior Ciera Lee, who has battled with illness this season, bounced back finishing in 18th place in the 400-meter dash and 16th place in the 800-meter run.

Leading the Men's Wave team, Freshmen Isaac Sytsma set the bar high with a double PR and earned CCAC All-Conference designation for his 3rd place performance in the 800-meter run.  Sytsma shaved off over 2 seconds in 800-meter with a time of 1:58.22, his personal best.  Sytsma again had a strong showing in the 1000 meter run where he PR'd for the second time during the meet with a time of 2:34.69, finishing in 5th place. Senior Antonio Kneeland Placed 11th in the 60-meter hurdles and 25th in the 200-meter dash. Senior Hector Martinez finished 6th overall in the 5000. Sophomore Adam Servin finished 13th in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:54.29.  Sophomore Matthew Mabry hit a big PR in the weight throw. Mabry added three feet to his throw with a distance of 33'1 feet, finishing in 14th place.

Overall, the Crimson Wave's had a great showing despite a late start to the season. Coach Bailey said "As we prepare for the outdoor season I am excited to see how much further the team will progress. I see great things coming for the Wave's team and I am looking forward to an outstanding outdoor season."
