Women’s Volleyball battle through 5 sets for win over Trinity Christian

Whiting, IN - The Calumet College Women's Volleyball team hosted the Trinity Christian Trolls on Tuesday evening. The Wave had been on a 4-game-losing streak until they took on the Trolls, and in a 5-set match, the Crimson Wave won 3-2 to move to 3-6 in CCAC play. 

How it Happened

The Crimson Wave got off to a hot start in the first set and had up to a 10-point lead over Trinity Christian until the Trolls started to close the gap. The Wave held on to finish with a first-set win of 25-19. 

In the second set, the Crimson Wave had a slower start as the Trolls took a quick lead. The Wave tied the match up halfway through, but Trinity Christian pulled ahead slowly and took the 25-22 win over CCSJ.

Tied at 1-1, the Crimson Wave started off ahead in the third set but the Trolls were nipping at the Wave's heels and it was a point-for-point battle. The Wave held off the Trolls just enough to finish the third set ahead 25-23 and move to 2-1. 

Trinity Christian took an early lead in the fourth set and the Wave couldn't quite catch up, losing the set 25-21 and tying the match at 2-2.

The fifth and final set was quickly tied up and turned into a small lead by Trinity Christian. Quickly, the Crimson Wave got a 2-point lead and took off from there. Finishing the set with a 15-13 lead, the Crimson Wave won the long match 3-2. 

Crimson Wave Leaders

Maria Elena Castorena led the Wave with 14 kills and Diana Ortuno was right behind with 13 kills. Rebecca Larios had 46 assists and Jade Green had 14 digs.

The Crimson Wave have a brief break until Tuesday, October 11th as they host the Region rival, IU-Northwest at 7:00 PM at The Ritt.
