Women’s Volleyball defeats Olivet Nazarene for the first time in program history 3-1

Whiting, IN - After two straight CCAC wins during the week, the Calumet College Women's Volleyball team defeated Olivet Nazarene 3-1 Saturday, the first match win over the Tigers in Crimson Wave Women's Volleyball history. 

The Wave had a strong week, defeating both Governors State and IU-South Bend, and were looking to continue that streak into the Saturday afternoon match. CCSJ had their highest margin win in set one, 25-18, but still pushed until the end in set two to win 25-23. ONU got just far enough ahead in set three to hold off the Wave and win 25-16. In the Crimson Wave's 10th set of the week, they battled back and forth against the Tigers and held on in the end, forcing ONU errors, to win 25-22. 

Naomi Monney led CCSJ with 16 kills, a .233 hitting percentage and 8 digs. Roberta Carlos Da Silva was not far behind with 14 kills, a .167 hitting percentage, 6 kills and 2 blocks. Gianna Martinez and Deila Macdonald each had 9 kills with 2 bigs, Macdonald also with 4 blocks. Ivana Quinones had 37 assists and Gabriela Barbosa had 12 digs on the day. 

The Crimson Wave are now 4-8 overall and 3-4 in CCAC play as they head into another 3-game week, first facing St. Xavier on the road Tuesday, October 3rd at 7:00 PM CT.
